Dr Ruth Akiyo Mizoguchi

Care of the Elderly Consultant

Dr Ruth Akiyo Mizoguchi is a Care of the Elderly Consultant and Dementia Lead at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (CWH) NHS Foundation Trust and holds a post as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College.

Ruth qualified from Tokai University School of Medicine, Japan and Imperial College, UK.  She has a special interest in dementia and has gone through training at the University of California San Francisco Memory Aging Centre, USA. During her specialist training she undertook dementia research at Imperial College, completed a year of overseas training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong where she developed interested in Dementia.

At her current trust, she works closely with neurologists and together they have established a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) memory clinic with the opportunity for dementia research and have access to Clinical Trials at Imperial College. She also runs the Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus MDT Clinic, which is the only adult clinic in the UK. With experience in Frailty Unit and neuro-rehabilitation, Ruth continues to lead various dementia research and quality improvement projects.

Prior to her current appointment she was a Care of the Elderly consultant & Dementia Lead at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from 2012-2018 where she also set up a memory clinic.
