Dr Terence McLoughlin is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, appointed in 2018. He practices within a major tertiary emergency care centre, leading the assessment and management of complex, high-acuity and time-critical presentations.
Alongside frontline consultant practice, he holds senior leadership roles as Deputy Clinical Director of Research and Clinical Sepsis Lead, with responsibility for research strategy, clinical governance, and the integration of evidence-based practice across emergency and acute services.
He is widely recognised for clinical leadership, workforce development, and the supervision and mentoring of doctors and advanced practitioners. His work is grounded in patient safety, quality improvement, and translational research.

Sports & Concussion Medicine
Dr McLoughlin has extensive experience in elite sport and major international events, including professional rugby organisations, the Rugby World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.
He serves as a Panel Expert in Sports Concussion and has advised the Love of the Game charity in its engagement with HM Government. Earlier in his career, he worked with the England Rugby Psychiatry Team alongside Dr Steve Peters.

Dr McLoughlin established an independent medicolegal practice in 2022, providing objective expert opinion across civil, criminal and coronial jurisdictions.
