Consultant Psychiatrist – Dementia, Cognitive Disorders and Brain Health

Professor Farooq Khan is a senior Consultant Psychiatrist at Re:Cognition Health Birmingham, with extensive expertise in the assessment and treatment of dementia, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and complex psychiatric conditions.

He specialises in the early diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders, with particular focus on patients presenting with memory concerns and cognitive decline. His clinical approach integrates detailed cognitive assessment with comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, ensuring accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment planning.

Professor Khan is actively involved in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and MCI due to Alzheimer’s pathology, including access to emerging anti-amyloid therapies and disease-modifying treatments (DMTs). He supports patients through all stages of the diagnostic and treatment pathway, from initial assessment to ongoing management, combining evidence-based pharmacological approaches with holistic, patient-centred care.

In addition to his expertise in neurocognitive disorders, Professor Khan has extensive experience in managing psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and complex presentations in older adults, particularly where these overlap with cognitive impairment.

He is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, a visiting  Professor of Dementia / Psychiatry at University of Chester and brings senior NHS leadership, academic expertise, and a strong research background to his work. His practice is characterised by clear communication, compassionate care, and a commitment to delivering the highest standards of modern dementia treatment.
